When attempting to identify a person you would usually try to get their fingerprints, or if you wanted to be very precise you could take an iris scan. Now there may be a much faster and easier way to identify a person, through nose scanning. This is something new that scientists are developing at the University of Bath.
This comes in reaction to increasing worries about identity theft and illegal immigration. Authorities are always looking for something better and easier to confirm the identities of individuals. Noses are difficult to hide or change the characteristics of, whereas other facial identifications can be easily disguised or altered. Dr. Evans and Moorhouse decided to investigate whether or not you could take the image of a person’s nose and use it to identify with.
Once a person’s nose is scanned it can be analyzed and used to identify a person. Instead of using the whole nose to accurately measure an individual’s identity this program uses only three defining characteristics; the tip of the nose, the nasion, and the ridge profile.
