Grouse Not Given Endangered Status

It was announced on Friday by Interior Departments that the greater sage grouse will not be assigned as an endangered species. This grouse dwells in the high plains located in the west. The report goes on to say that the grouse is indeed facing extinction but at this time it does not need the protection of the government. This comes in contrast with the 2004 report for the same species which stated that grouse was not in any danger of extinction. It was later revealed that the committee that decided this had been subjected to tampering and their conclusions could prove false.
It was concluded by scientists that this species does deserve inclusion with the rest of the endangered species but that there are many other species at this time that are facing a more imminent threat to extinction than the grouse is. This is why it has been given the status of ‘warranted but precluded’ by the committee assessing its status. The grouse will face yearly review now to determine if it should be considered an endangered species.
